Giant Eagle Owl by Debbie Morrison |
This A2 sized sketch
by Debbie Morrison completed in Janaury 2000 was one of two commissioned
as a belated birthday present for Steve Edwards of Musango Safari Camp.
This Giant Eagle Owl and the Pel's Fishing Owl were inspired by two specimens spotted at Maronga Tented Camp on 21 June 99 (Steve's birthday) whilst on a birding trip with Chris Worden. The Giant Eagle Owl (Bubo lacteus) is the largest owl in the world. It feeds largely on game birds (e.g. Guinea fowl) and small mammals - scrub hares are a favourite. They are usually seen at dawn or dusk and asides from their large size are easily recognised by their pink upper eyelids. |
