Geography and logistics simplify safari options in Tanzania
  • The popular “northern circuit” includes the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara. These areas get seriously busy at certain times of the year with minibus tours. We only use private driver/guided 4WD vehicles, thus allowing a high degree of independence and where possible we use mobile or semi mobile private tented camps.
  • The wilder south and west includes the Selous, Ruaha, Katavi and Mahale – all slightly less accessible, all less attractive to the masses and definitely a lot more enticing with small camps hosted by experienced guides in remote and wild locations.
  • Zanzibar and a small selection of island and beach getaways on the east coast offer an absolutely complimentary extension to our safaris.

Northern fly-in safaris

Starting and ending in Arusha, any day of the week, we use a light aircraft to access the semi-permanent tented camps in Tarangire (except March/April/May), Serengeti and Loliondo within the greater Serengeti eco-system.

  • The Tarangire camp in seasonally located in the southern sector of the park, a stylish 8 bed camp, where we focus on walking safaris and game drives in the remoter parts of the Tarangire.
  • The Serengeti Safari Camp is a classic 12 bed East Africa camp which is relocated to one of three different areas within the Serengeti in specific response to the location of the migration – the focus here is on year round game viewing and the migration.
  • The Nduara Loliondo camp is 12 bed nomadic camp located in one of two areas throughout the year. Here we concentrate on game viewing, walking safaris, night drives and because we’re in private Maasai community areas this is where we have an opportunity to let life slow down to gain a genuine appreciation for Maasai culture.

The camps are shared with other clients at night but each party has a private guide and exclusive vehicle use whilst on safari. This safari is tailor-made to suit time available, interests and budget. We’re very flexible with this trip, we can add on Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara (2 nights recommended) during the middle of the safari and whilst 2 nights is the minimum period needed in any of the camps there’s no limit on length of stay or specific need to visit all of the locations - this is our greater Serengeti Safari.

Traditional Mobile safaris

We recommend either the Nomad mobile safaris or "authentic" camping safaris.

The Nomad mobile safaris are ideally suited to small groups of friends and family.  These small semi-nomadic camps have top guides in the best locations to focus on some of Tanzania's greatest wildlife in style and comfort.  Very flexible, available any time of year.

  • The "traditional mobile camp" is a 12 bed camp offered on an exclusive or shared basis all year round in the Serengeti - the migration is primary focus.
  • The "wilderness mobile camp" is a smaller and more lightweight 8 bed camp offered on an exclusive basis only in either the Serengeti or Katavi depending on season.

We also recommend "authentic" camping and "adventure grade" camping safaris in the Serengeti. These are 6 and 7 day safaris, usually offered on a set-date basis, moderately priced and well suited to those wanting adventure, great guides and fewer crowds.

Walking safaris

Probably the most exciting, and definitely the lowest impact way to experience the bush.

These safaris vary in detail, but the basic concept is the same - a distillation of all the best elements of safari; excellent service by a small dedicated crew, good food and drinks and hot showers, with the promise of complete immersion in the wild.

Accommodation ranges from luxury tented camps to true fly-camping in the most remote areas of the Selous and Katavi.  The latter spot hits all the right notes for flycamping and walking safaris in Tanzania!

Specialist trips

Tanzania offers some of the best chimpanzee tracking in the whole of Africa. On the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika there are two areas where these wonderful endangered animals are found. As is often the case, it is the least known - Mahale - that offers by far the richest experience.

Gombe in the north where Jane Goodall performed her groundbreaking studies, is a small park, beautiful, but surrounded by encroaching humanity on all sides.

Adventure trips

Do you have 7 days to spare? Climb Mt Kilimanjaro with porters carrying your luggage and food. Guided climbs via the popular and busy Marangu route staying in shared huts or the less crowded Machame route using private tented camps. Reward yourself with spectacular views and an incredible sense of personal achievement.dhow at Breezes Beach Club, Tanzania beach safari

Zanzibar and Beach Getaways

The Spice island of Zanzibar and the Tanzanian coastline offers a selection of beach getaways offering pure escapism often in deserted locations, a perfect end to a busy safari or Kilimanjaro-climb.

Accommodation to suit all budgets and activities including diving, deep-sea fishing, spice tours plus the opportunity to experience the culture of this fascinating island make Zanzibar a truly memorable destination.
